Events: Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Recap.

The Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week [new Delhi] took place from the 15th to the 19th of February at Pragati Maidan.

It saw the likes of the best designers like Rohit Bal, JJ Valaya, Arjun Saluja, Anand Bhushan, Kallol Datta and more.

Although it was for autumn/winter, there was a lot of bright colors which made us more reminiscent about spring/summer that is fast approaching.

There were a lot of designers who tried to twist the sari into a modern garment. Most of the variations were rather artistic in nature and very wearable to say the least.

There were no shows that went over the top, forming into something completely unwearable but the drama of the simplicity made this Fashion Week memorable and perhaps even one of the best in recent year.

In a montage of pictures, I give you a preview of the various shows in the week that was.

There were also various well dressed people who came to watch the shows and believe you me, they were wearing shoes to kill for.

Keep a look out for a second post on street style here on the blog.

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we celebrate all thing pretty, pink and rosy and of course, cupcakes! Lets not get all mushy this year but instead, lets really understand and celebrate this day that most of us wish was really a national holiday!

The problem with Valentine’s Day is the stereotype that we have created around it. Tacky red roses and chocolates don’t cut it anymore. Sure, a romantic dinner with champagne or wine is pretty fancy and dreamy but what is the purpose and point of it all if you’ve made this the rule? Is it special at all if that’s what you’re doing all the time with the next person you happen to be celebrating Valentine’s Day with?
Not at all!

There is so much more to this day. It’s really about sharing and celebrating it with the ones you love. This would include your family, your friends and of course, your better half. It doesn’t have to be all about expensive gifts too you know. Maybe a quiet moment with your near and dear ones is all that matters.

So this Valentine’s, do it different. Do it with the real feel and all that love. All you lucky ones who have the love of your life by your side, lets celebrate some love, people!

This year, its all about plush pink and pretty things so even if you are really a rock chick at heart, lets think pink for this one day! You can still channel the inner you with accessories but in terms of colors, I vote pink!

Here is a mood-board below for inspiration:

Hope 2012 has been a cracker of a start for you in life, love and of course, fashion. In the world of fashion, everybody is preparing for the up-coming fashion weeks that will put the world in a frenzy. Paris, Milan, New York, Tokyo, London and even New Delhi.

So whether you are attending shows or not, I know you would always want to be at your stylish best. With this collection of pictures via www.thesartorialist.com, here’s some fashion advices for you. The first and most important thing? Its really all in the details. It doesn’t even need to be the biggest label name by the way. Just the details, the way you put your outfit together and the way you present yourself in your ensemble.

 1. The best and simplest combination for color-blocking. Simple, elegant yet so modern and edgy with the addition of the red pants.

 2. How to wear the over-sized, boyfriend blazer and still maintain a girl touch to it. Don’t forget to wear loafers! Not only do they add a casual touch but its a classic and spell super comfort! Carlton London have a great collection of loafers in various colours so make it a point to visit the store in MGF Mall, Gurgaon.

3. This is the way to make your canvas shoes chic! An oversized shirt with a detailed color and those canvas shoes [like Converse] and oh! A touch of Red lipstick and ta dah! You’re all set. Casual Glam Chic.

  4. Flowing florals and gladiator sandals. Who thought that would make such a strong stance in fashion? But it seems like it makes the perfect couple. Keep the length of the dress shorter if you’re not very tall and take your hair back, all slick with bright pop lipstick. Keep this look ready for the summers.

5. A twist to the usual old boring winter sweater or jacket. Keep the look minimal in black but invest on a jacket that has a twist. It doesn’t have to be like the picture but it could be in a different color like pink or neon, zipper details, color blocking, floral/pinstripe/ polka dots or some other interest prints on them. Keep your eye out for the odd ones. They always make a fashion impression.

So there you go. A few tid bits of fashion tips. Try some today! Fashion is not limitless even in terms of the weather and in fact, winter IS the time to be all fancy.

See you next time. xo

Inspirations: Levitation Pictures.

Sometimes its not only fashion that can be inspiring. Natsumi Hayashi lives in Tokyo with 2 cats and photographs herself levitating everywhere. Each day, she posts a levitating picture of herself on her website: www.yowayowacamera.com

While most levitation pictures are done on photoshop by overlapping two similar images, you can’t tell whaty Natsumi has done. In some of the pictures, she really is levitating or jumping to be more precise but she does it in such a graceful manner, you are forced to believe that she has the power to levitate! That’s probably what she wants to achieve and has achieved.

Japanese people are known for their quirks be it in literature or fashion [think Haruki Murakami, Yasunari Kawabata, Junya Watanabe, Yohji Yamamoto] so it’s no wonder that Natsumi is another one of those genuinely, creative and out-of-the-box Japanese individual who has left people awestruck.

I hope you’ve found these pictures as inspiring and lovely as I did.

Fashion Reports: Chanel Pre-Fall 2012.

When the Chanel Pre-Fall 2012 took off, it was a magical moment. The legendary and icon model Stella Tennant opened for the show which Karl Lagerfeld, the creative-director of Chanel, titled Bombay-Paris. So you can well see that India held the inspiration for this collection. Karl Lagerfeld’s love for India never brought him to the country and he believes it is best left that way. Yes, he is inspired but his work is an interpretation of what he sees in it.

This remarkable collection also had India’s leading models. Internationally renowned model Laxmi Menon was as stunning as ever. Jyothsna Chakravarthy has only been in the modelling circuit [in India] for the last 3 years but was the only other Indian model picked up for this magnificent show.

In a sea of faces, our Indian girls stood out in this truly marvelous collection inspired by a country so full of diversity. While the collection has so much influence historically, mainly the British Raj and Indian Women in the medieval times, it holds a certain Parisian romance.

Timeless elegance and falling short of nothing, I applaud Karl Lagerfeld for bring the wonder that is truly India.

Fashion Reports: Uggs from Carlton London.

The chill in the air is more than a slight nip now! Its REALLY cold! My sister refuses to agree with me but seriously? How can you ignore the cold in the morning and [especially] at night?? I am always shuffling around my wardrobe about what to wear and not end up looking like a polar bear. The biggest problem? Which shoe to wear! Sandals just don’t do it while boots are just not right to wear early morning, especially when I have to go to work!

So what does one do?

You go ahead and opt for something comfortable. Something warm, furry and just wonderful enough to even sleep in. What do you call them? UGGS! You can go “aughhh” out of hatred for them but you CANNOT deny the comfort level of these shoes.  Sure, you look at these shoes and maybe you think you’ll never wear them and wonder HOW do people even own them! The thing is though, uggs are a rage  because of its comfort. The A-listers of Hollywood have all been spotted wearing a pair of Uggs at least once! Take a cue from them and style your Ugg so they look Chic and drop dead stylish!

These Uggs from Carlton London are the ones to grab! In three different colours that will match any outfit ensemble, these are one of your winter must haves!

So begin your winters in the best possible way!

Personal Style: Outfit post 14-11-2011

I prefer winters to wear skirts. Tug on some black opaque stockings and pull on that skirt, irregardless of the length. My mistake for this outfit? Thinking I could handle the cold! Bad move. My legs were almost frozen on my ride back home. Okay, not so extreme but close to it.

These shoes I have on are Carlton London and they are close to 3 years old now. They were my first pair of oxford shoes and not to mention, the first pairs I had seen in New Delhi at that point. Its end times are approaching but I refuse to give up on them. I remember going back to buy another pair because I can pretty much pair them with anything I have on especially to dress it down or lean towards a more androgynous look. Unfortunately, they were out of sizes.

I have always relied on most of my Carlton shoes to get me through days when I think I am having a bad sole day. I am sure most of you Carlton fans would agree with me on this, yes?

Until next time, bisou bisou.
